Atoka School Orchestra - 1936-1937
"Taking the Violin pupils of Mrs. J. W. Clark and Miss Elizabeth Vaughan and some of the members of the Band, we formed a small Orchestra. when we organized, we had eight instruments, seven wind instruments, and a piano. Since then, as the members of the Band progressed, six wind instruments have been added to the Orchestra. We now have twenty-three members in the Orchestra."
"As the students who played wind instruments were beginners, the Violins were held back until the wind instruments caught up. However, at the end of the year, we were playing such music as Barcarolie, Poet and Peasant Overture, Minuet in G and Brahms' Hungarian Dance No. 5."
"We were handicapped with the lack of Violas, Cellos, Oboe, Flute, and String Bass, but nevertheless we had a very successful year. We performed in public for the Pioneer Club, Senior Play, and all the Churches." - John Franklin Johnson
